Sony Xperia Z4

Sony has unveiled the Xperia Z4, its latest flagship smartphone. In some ways the Xperia Z4 bares a resemblance to its Z3 predecessor, with the same 5.2-inch screen, a slightly thinner 6.9mm form, and a Snapdragon 810 processor which clocks a more modest 2GHz but is eight-core and 64-bit. The rear-facing camera maintains the same eye-popping 20.7-megapixels. Meanwhile the front-facing camera has a wide-angle lens, and under the hood there’s 3GB of RAM. Let’s not forget the Android 5.0 Lollipop which runs out of the box.

Sony is known for its water- and dust-resistant devices. Remember the subtle little Sony set-up featured in Ciara’s “I’m Out”? From that music video were reminded that fish can swim, and so can Sony’s new line of mobile phones. The Xperia Z4 continues to deliver in that regard. For a brief summary on the rest of it’s aspects see below:

The Xperia Z4 has a metal and glass chassis, retaining the 'OmniBalance' design that Sony's phones have become recognizable for. This means that the Z4 design has a sharp, angular design, with a glass front and back, and a metal rim around the sides of the phone.

Also of note, the speaker has moved to the top edge, and is wider than on the Z3; maybe the rumors of Sony BoomSound-like speakers are true after all? Dimensionally, the Xperia Z4 is near-identical to the Xperia Z3, but is 0.4mm thinner at 6.9mm.

The Xperia Z4 display isn't overstretching itself in terms of display features. With a 5.2-inch LCD 'Triluminos' screen, and a pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080, the Xperia Z4 will find itself comfortably competing with most flagships, barring the QHD offerings from Samsung and LG.

The Xperia Z4 specs are directly comparable to those of the HTC One M9, which features the same octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon 810 chipset, and 3GB RAM. Provided Sony's UI works as smoothly with Snapdragon and Android Lollipop as HTC's, this means that the Xperia Z4 should deliver powerful flagship performance to match its rivals.
