Bell Aliant reports 2013 fourth quarter and full-year results, announces 2014 financial guidance

1 billion smartphones shipped worldwide in 2013

If you had any doubts about the popularity of smartphones, new numbers suggest they’ve notched a significant milestone. The global smartphone market topped 1 billion shipments for the first time in 2013, covering about one-seventh of the world’s population, according to research by IDC. 

Smartphone shipments were up 38.4 percent in 2013 from 725 million units in the previous year, according to data from IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.

For every text message, mobile call, and long distance call by Bell and Bell Aliant customers, tweet using #BellLetsTalk and Facebook share of the Bell Let's Talk Day image, Bell will donate 5 cents to mental health programs across the country. Last year, in one day, Canadians participated in a big way, generating 96,266,266 calls, texts, tweets and Facebook shares resulting in a $4.8-million donation to mental health in Canada.

Clara Hughes motivated by stories for mental health campaign

The Bell Let’s Talk campaign aims to garner more than 100 million texts, phone calls, tweets and Facebook messages this year, the fourth year of the national mental health awareness campaign.

For every tweet with the hashtag #BellLetsTalk, Bell will donate five cents to mental health initiatives.

Five cents is also donated for every text, phone call and Facebook share of the company's Bell Let's Talk image.

TUESDAY IS BELL LET'S TALK DAY ON TSN AND CTV

Tuesday is Bell Let's Talk Day when the issue of mental health will be openly discussed across all platforms on TSN and CTV.

During the morning loop on TSN, SportsCentre presents Purple Hearts, a TSN Original feature on Daron Richardson, daughter of former NHL defenceman Luke Richardson, who took her own life at the age of 14. The tragedy shocked the entire city of Ottawa, including Daron's hockey teammates; her best and closest friends. Since Daron's suicide, this remarkable group of young girls has set out on a quest to honour her memory, both with their play on the ice and their activism in the community. Their goal is simply, Do It For Daron –  an initiative that raises awareness of youth mental health.
